February 19, 2024

It was a thrilling match in Week 25 of the Italian Serie A League when Bologna went head-to-head with Lazio at Stadio Olimpico on a Sunday (18/2/2024). Despite playing as the away team, Bologna showed no signs of backing down in front of Lazio's passionate crowd of 60,000.

In their match against Lazio, Bologna, under the leadership of Joshua Zirkzee, had their sights set on scoring an early goal. However, it was Gustav Isaksen who caught Thiago Motta's team off guard with a powerful strike in the 18th minute, courtesy of an assist from Ciro Immobile.

Just moments before the halftime whistle blew, Bologna were given a glimmer of hope as Giovanni Fabbian seized the opportunity presented by a defensive blunder, cleverly setting up Oussama El Azzouzi to secure the much-needed equalizing goal in the 39th minute.

As the second half unfolded, it was clear that Lazio had taken control of the attack, relentlessly pushing forward in their pursuit of a goal. However, despite their dominance, their valiant efforts ultimately proved fruitless as Bologna's hero, Joshua Zirkzee, emerged. In the 78th minute, he skillfully connected with Victor Kristiansen's well-placed cross, securing a crucial goal that sealed Bologna's 2-1 victory.

In a triumphant moment, Bologna achieved their long-held dream of securing a coveted spot in the Champions League. Their latest victory propelled them to the impressive 5th position in the standings, boasting a total of 45 points, which put them on equal footing with Atalanta, who currently occupies 4th place.
