RB Leipzig’s Baumgartner Offered To Lazio To Fill Creative Midfield Role
Lazio are reportedly eyeing a move to strengthen their attacking midfield this summer, with Austrian international Christoph Baumgartner emerging as a serious candidate. The 25-year-old, currently playing for RB Leipzig, has been offered to the Biancoceleste as they search for a true number 10 to anchor their offense.
Since Luis Alberto’s departure, Lazio have lacked a natural trequartista, a role temporarily filled by forward Boulaye Dia under coach Marco Baroni’s tactical adjustments. While Dia has adapted well behind striker Taty Castellanos in a 4-2-3-1 setup, the club now appears focused on securing a more specialized playmaker.
According to LaLazioSiamoNoi, Baumgartner fits the profile: technically gifted, capable of linking midfield and attack, and experienced at the top level. After a successful stint at Hoffenheim, he moved to Leipzig in 2023 for €25 million. His current market value has since dropped to around €15–18 million, making him an attainable target for Lazio.
This season, Baumgartner has registered five goals and two assists across 41 appearances. Interestingly, his agency—YOU FIRST—has close ties with Lazio, having previously represented Luis Alberto and Raul Moro. That connection could smoothen negotiations, should Lazio move forward with a deal.
While a potential price tag of €15–18 million has been floated, reports suggest Lazio may opt to sell a current player for €12–13 million to finance the transfer—underscoring their intent to bring in a true midfield creator for the seasons ahead.
