[Official] Salernitana Appoint Former Lazio Defender Stendardo As Primavera Head Coach

A familiar face from Lazio’s recent past has taken a new step in his coaching career. Salernitana have officially announced changes within their Primavera setup, confirming the dismissal of Ernesto De Santis and the appointment of Guglielmo Stendardo as the new head coach of the youth team.

The Granata club made the decision official through a statement, while Stendardo himself shared the news on his Instagram profile, posting images of his return to Salerno. For the former defender, the appointment represents both a professional milestone and a personal homecoming.

Stendardo is no stranger to Salernitana. During the 2002 to 2003 season, he wore the Granata shirt in Serie B, making seventeen appearances and scoring four goals. That early chapter of his playing career laid the foundation for a long journey through Italian football, which would later include over four hundred appearances across Serie A, Serie B, and European competitions.

After hanging up his boots, Stendardo began his coaching path at LUISS before moving on to Valmontone. Last season, he guided the club to promotion to Serie D, a result that strengthened his reputation as a promising young coach and opened the door to his return to Salerno in a new role.

For Lazio supporters, Stendardo remains closely associated with the Biancoceleste colors. Born in 1981, his time at Lazio spanned six seasons across two separate spells. The first ran from 2005 to 2008, followed by a second stint from 2009 to 2012. Known as a physically strong defender with an eye for goal, he scored six league goals during his years in Rome, often proving decisive in crucial moments.

Now, Stendardo begins a new chapter from the sidelines, tasked with guiding Salernitana’s Primavera squad and shaping the next generation of players. His appointment adds another former Lazio figure to the coaching landscape of Italian football, reinforcing the enduring connection between the Biancoceleste and those who once defended their colors on the pitch.
