Another Blow For Lazio As Rovella Suffers Broken Collarbone In Cagliari Draw

February 23, 2026

S.S. Lazio left Sardinia with only a point and a fresh injury headache after Saturday night’s 0 to 0 draw away to Cagliari Calcio. The result itself did little for Lazio’s European push, but the bigger story came after the final whistle, when Nicolò Rovella was seen with an ice pack on his shoulder following an awkward fall during a foul.

Lazio had already travelled without several key options, and Maurizio Sarri admitted the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to manage. After the match, he confirmed the severity of the latest setback, stating that Rovella has “a fracture” and describing the campaign in brutally direct terms. “This is a cursed season,” Sarri said, before adding that Lazio are stuck in a “constant emergency situation.”

The timing is especially frustrating for Lazio because Rovella had only recently returned from a long absence linked to a groin issue, and his presence was meant to stabilise Sarri’s midfield structure. Instead, the club now fears another extended layoff, with reporting in Italy indicating roughly 45 days on the sidelines, which would likely push his return toward April.

Rovella’s injury lands on top of an already heavy list. Lazio are currently dealing with problems involving Pedro, Mario Gila, Toma BaÅ¡ić, Manuel Lazzari, and Samuel Gigot, even if there was at least one positive note as Alessio Romagnoli returned from suspension.

The concern now is what this means for the next stretch of fixtures. Lazio are due back in Serie A away at Torino FC on Sunday, March 1, before turning to the Coppa Italia semi final first leg at home against Atalanta BC on Wednesday, March 3 at Stadio Olimpico. Those games were already tough, but they look even more complicated if Sarri must cope without Rovella again, on top of the existing absences.
