Luiz Felipe Is One Step Away From Signing A New Contract With Lazio

Lazio defender Luiz Felipe is reportedly just one step away from extending his contract with the Italian capital club despite being attracted by Serie A rivals Atalanta this summer.  The Brazilian center-back's performance last season was not optimal because he had to undergo major surgery on an ankle injury.

According to news reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero on Saturday (31/07) morning local time, Bergamo-based club Atalanta is eyeing the services of Lazio's 24-year-old center-back Luiz Felipe as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero, who looks set to leave soon to Premier League club Tottenham this summer.

However, despite the intense interest in Gian Piero Gasperini's team, Luiz Felipe is reportedly just one step away from signing a contract extension with the Biancoceleste after his latest contract expires next year in 2022.

The Aquile are certainly reluctant to lose Felipe's services and coach Maurizio Sarri believes he is the perfect choice for his 4-3-3 formation, so the club can finalize his new contract as soon as possible.  The club, based in Rome, set a transfer value of around 30 million Euros.

Meanwhile, the center-back made just 14 appearances in Serie A last season, playing 910 minutes in total.  He was sidelined for almost four months due to surgery on his ankle at the end of January, but he is now 100 percent recovered and ready to play for the Biancoceleste in the 2021/22 season.
