September 28, 2021

Lazio star midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic overtook Sinisa Mihajlovic as Serbia's third-highest scorer in Serie A history. He added to his tally when his team beat Roma 3-2 in the derby della Capitale on Sunday (26/09) evening local time.

As reported by statistics provider Sacha Pisani via Twitter, the 26-year-old Serbian midfielder has now scored 39 goals in Serie A since joining Lazio in 2015.  His goal against Roma in the Derby della Capitale saw him take over from former Biancoceleste and Sampdoria defender Sinisa Mihajlovic who scored 38 Serie A goals in his career.

Two other Serbian players are still ahead of Milinkovic-Savic at the moment: former Fiorentina striker with 48 goals and former Biancoceleste midfielder Dejan Stankovic who netted 51 goals in the Italian top-flight league competition.

Meanwhile the 26-year-old is still under contract with The Aquile until 2024 and is still adapting to Maurizio Sarri's new system, but so far he has scored two goals and contributed two assists this season.

He will still be one of the star players in the 62-year-old squad even though he is currently still getting used to the new system implemented by Sarri.  Then he and his teammates prepare for the second match in the Europa League against Russia's Lokomotiv Moscow on Thursday evening local time.
