Sarri's Homework To Immediately Improve Lazio's Defensive Performance

October 08, 2021

Maurizio Sarri must immediately improve the performance of Lazio's defense which has conceded 12 goals in the first seven games of the season and has just one goal less than last season after seven games played.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Lazio conceded 13 goals in their first seven games in the 2020/21 Serie A season under their previous coach, Simone Inzaghi and now the situation is not much different.

This trend highlights how the Biancoceleste squad was very sloppy at the start of the season and this has not changed since being tackled by the new coach, Maurizio Sarri. The players will have to adapt to the movement and defensive tactics employed by the 62-year-old coach and only time will tell how well the capital Eagles squad will accept this, but for now, things have started slowly.

The Biancoceleste currently have 11 points from seven games played and are sixth in the standings, the same number as when Inzaghi managed last season after seven games played.

Sarri has been working intensely with the Aquile players who are still training at Formello this international break and hopes to prepare for their next match against Simone Inzaghi's side Inter on 17 October in the best possible way. Previously they had to swallow a 3-0 defeat of the host Bologna last weekend.
