Lazio director, Igli Tare tried to calm the controversy over the club's Christmas dinner, where seven players left the event early and he also responded to Maurizio Sarri's new contract saying that the coach could not promise miracles.

Lazio has struggled to be consistent this season under coach Maurizio Sarri and they just returned to winning ways by beating relegation side Genoa 3-1 on Friday night at the Stadio Olimpico.

There was controversy earlier this week when the Biancoceleste hosted a Christmas dinner in which seven players decided to leave early before president Claudio Lotito delivered his speech.

The incident reportedly irritated the president who commented “Some have forgotten the team spirit and don't understand the sacrifices that have been made, remember, you exist because someone saw your insight.

"I saw some players leave, so is that in view a lack of respect?"

According to reports by Tuttomercatoweb, the players who left the event early were Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Stefan Radu, Toma Basic, Dimitrije Kamenovic, Felipe Anderson, Adam Marusic, and Denis Vavro.

"When things don't go according to plan in terms of the next outcome what happened at the Christmas dinner can be called a controversy," Tare said via DAZN.

"There are moments you have to overcome with composure and hard work."

The Biancoceleste have offered coach Sarri a contract extension even though he only took charge last summer and the results are far from convincing, the director has his say.

"Our project does not promise miracles, but a decisive change was made with the coach six months ago.  We are on the right track, so difficult moments have to be accepted and faced in the right way with determination and belief.

"Renewing Sarri's contract is a sign of how much we have faith in his direction."
