[Serie A] Lazio - Empoli = 3 - 3

Lazio failed to take advantage of their home ground when they hosted Empoli in the 20th Giornata of the Italian League 2021/2022. The hosts made a comeback after falling behind 0-2 and were able to close the game with a score of 3-3. 

Appearing in front of their supporters who were present at the Stadio Olimpico, Thursday (6/1/2022), Lazio was surprised by two quick Empoli goals scored by Nedim Bajrami (6) and Federico Di Francesco (8).

However, Lazio, who did not want to fall at their stadium, tried to increase the tempo of the game to score a reply. As a result, Ciro Immobile was able to reduce the deficit in the 14th minute. The score of 2-1 lasted until the break.

In the second half, Lazio kept trying to suppress Empoli's defense. Maurizio Sarri's side had to wait until the 66th minute to equalize 2-2 through Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

However, Empoli did not remain passive. Nine minutes later or to be precise in the 75th minute, the visitors returned to a 3-2 lead through Szymon Zurkowski's shot.

In the 78th minute, Patrick managed to break into the Empoli goal. However, VAR was annulled. In the 87th minute, Lazio was awarded a penalty. Unfortunately Immobile could not maximize it into a goal.

This makes Lazio on the verge of defeat. Luckily, during injury time, Milinkovic-Savic scored his second goal in the match and at the same time equalized 3-3.

As a result of this draw, Lazio did not move from the eighth position of the Italian League standings this season with 32 points. While Empoli rose to ninth with 28 points.
