Sarri: "We Are The Worst In Serie A In One-On-One Situations In Defense. We Need More Balance Because We Have Improved A Lot In Terms Of Quality."

Lazio coach, Maurizio Sarri was disappointed with his team's 3-3 draw against visitor Empoli in the Serie A match which took place on Thursday (06/01) at the Stadio Olimpico.

Maurizio Sarri discusses Lazio's performance as they were held to a 3-3 draw by their visitors, Empoli, three goals from the hosts contributed by Ciro Immobile, and two goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic that saved The Aquile from defeat.

"The result was not satisfactory for us, because we had quality in our performance, we created a lot of chances, but when in 10 minutes you are two goals down then something is wrong, I am happy with the reaction and the character the team showed," said the coach. via LazioNews24.

"In the second half our performance was of a high standard, but next we have to evaluate other aspects, like the first minute and the third goal. But a performance like this shouldn't end in a draw."

Furthermore, the 62-year-old coach assessed the game as a whole and what Lazio needs to improve.

"Honestly I thought Patric scored a goal but you have to believe in VAR, I think it's weird because they don't see the Zaccagni incident again. We were punished by a few moments but we reacted well."

"However I have to do something more from the point of view of attention and activation, we need more balance because we have improved a lot in terms of quality."

Sarri also discussed the current poor performance of the Biancoceleste defense.

“The first goal came because we were not alert, while the third goal our defense looked passive. Luiz Felipe has already been shown a yellow card and maybe he is a little worried."

"But it's a recurring situation, we are the worst in Serie A in one-on-one situations in defense. There's no doubt we have to improve."

The addition of one point does not change their position in eighth place in the Serie A standings, six points behind fourth-place, Atalanta. While they are targeting a Champions League spot, it seems impossible to achieve at the moment with their inconsistent form. Their next match will be away to Inter on Sunday night.
