Failed To Get Botman, Milan Switch Targets To Lazio's Acerbi

AC Milan may miss the chance to sign Sven Botman. The Dutch center-back even though had become the main target for the Rossoneri.

The Dutch center-back has become a prime target for the Rossoneri. Negotiations have begun, but discussions over a move from Lille are still ongoing. The defender has now reportedly agreed to join Newcastle United. Lille values Botman at 40 million euros. That's twice what Milan offered.

Milan is still trying to find more defenders, especially central defenders. With the problem that arises, now they are linked with veteran defender Francesco Acerbi. Acerbi currently plays for Lazio However, as relations with the fans deteriorated, the Bianconeleste had a chance to let him go.

Although no longer young, Acerbi's performance and maturity can still be counted on. Because of this, head coach Stefano Pioli started to seriously consider it. But it should be noted that if Milan does not bring Botman, Acerbi is not a substitute in this case. He's more of a backup to keep the roster deep, considering they'll be in many games and top games next season.

Meanwhile, Milan has already prepared some names for other targets to replace Botman. It's just that the problem is with the team's spending, the club owners limiting too much and they can't move freely.

Acerbi is not a new figure for Milan. In 2012, he played for the team. At the time, Milan signed the 22-year-old Acerbi from Chievo Verona for 4 million euros. Acerbi is plotted as the successor to Thiago Silva, who is heading to Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately, Acerbi's adventure with Milan didn't go as planned. He only played 10 games there (6 Serie A, 2 Coppa Italia, and 2 Champions League) before being sold to Genoa in 2013.
