Lazio Start Using More Italian Players As Their Starting Line Up

August 30, 2022

Lazio began the 2022/2023 season with a squad composed of many Italian players from Maurizio Sarri's first team. So far, the capital team has gained seven points out of three matches played.

National team head coach Roberto Mancini and FIGC president Gabriele Gravina have recently expressed concerns over some national players who aren't considered integral to the Serie A team. But the results of Lazio's performance in this summer's transfer window produced Italian players considered a core part of Maurizio Sarri's squad in 2022/23.

According to reports from Il Tempo, six of eleven players in Lazio's starting lineup were native Italians while there are other 2 on the bench. Recently, this Azzurri core's Lazio was seen in their victory over Inter by a score of 3 to 1.

The core consists of Ivan Provedel, Manuel Lazzari, Alessio Romagnoli, Mattia Zaccagni, Danilo Cataldi, Ciro Immobile, Nicolo Casale, and Matteo Cancellieri. The last time Aquile's side had many domestic players was in 2009/10 when the likes of Giuseppe Biava, Tommaso Rocchi, and Stefano Mauri appeared to defend the capital's Eagles.

The results so far have been positive, with Maurizio Sarri's side taking seven points from their three games so far in the 2022/23 season, winning two and drawing one. They are currently third in the Serie A standings.
