[Official] Spezia Sold Provedel To Lazio After A Long Negotiation

Lazio has their long-awaited second goalkeeper. He is Ivan Provedel, the Italian-Russian goalkeeper who wore the Spezia shirt last season and is now moving to Lazio.

Ivan Provedel underwent a medical before signing for Lazio immediately. According to Sky Sports, the goalkeeper has signed a five-year, €1.2 million-a-season contract with Lazio. On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, in the morning local time, he will meet Maurizio Sarri to start training.

Provedel is the eighth player signed by the Biancoceleste in this summer's transfer window. Earlier in the transfer window, the Biancoceleste signed Marcos Antonio from Shakhtar Donetsk, Nicolo Casale, and Matteo Cancellieri from Hellas Verona. Then Mario Gila from Real Madrid, Luis Maximiano from Granada, Alessio Romagnoli, and Matias Vecino was obtained for free.

The arrival of Ivan Provedel is the wish of head coach Maurizio Sarri. Lazio has not had a veteran goalkeeper since Thomas Strakosha and Pepe Reina left the club. The team needs a backup goalkeeper who has played in many league games because they will be participating in the Europa League the following season. Relying on Luis Maximiano alone for a club of Lazio's caliber is not enough. Thanks to finishing in 5th place in the 2021-2022 Serie A season, Lazio has the right to participate in the 2022-2023 Europa League.

Here is the official press release from the club: "S.S. Lazio announces that it has definitively acquired the right to the sports services of the footballer Ivan Provedel, coming from Spezia Calcio."
