Sarri: "We Shouldn't Have Lost Tonight, It Was A Balance Game And The Team Didn't Let Me Down Tonight."

Maurizio Sarri is saddened that Lazio was knocked out of the Europa League in their final group game, which took place on Thursday night.

Lazio need just one point to advance to the last 16 of the Europa League, that result was enough to be top of the group after Midtjylland beat Sturm Graz 2-0.

However, Santiago Gimenez managed to take advantage of the clash between Patric and Ivan Provedel to score the only goal of Feyenoord's victory. Biancoceleste was eliminated from the Europa League and faced runners-up in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

Sarri told Sky Sport Italia: "We played well the whole game, we knew there were times when we would be under pressure and we didn't have any problems at all."

"We have to take responsibility that we created five chances to put the ball in the net and we couldn't do it and that's why we were punished."

"I saw a dynamic, determined, and fighting team. We shouldn't have lost tonight, it was a balance game and the team didn't let me down tonight."

All teams in Group F end their group stage with 8 points, so the head-to-head and goal difference is decisive. Sarri was asked if he regretted the group's development, and he named their shock loss to Midtjylland as the culprit.

"The draw with Sturm Graz was pretty good, we should have beaten them at home without a red card incident, it was our fault in Denmark and that's why we were third behind them."
