Immobile Aspires To Equal Inzaghi's Champions League Record

Ciro Immobile, the striker for Lazio, has set his sights on breaking the record for the highest number of goals scored with the Italian capital team in the UCL, Europe's top club competition, by the close of the 2023/24 season. The team re-entered the competition after a two-year absence, and their debut match took place last Tuesday against Atletico Madrid.

Yearning to regain his goal-scoring form, Ciro Immobile is determined to aid Lazio in breaking a record in the Champions League. Despite being a seasoned 33-year-old striker, Immobile has struggled to find his rhythm at the beginning of the new season, having only scored a single goal in their first four matches.

During the last international break, he was able to score a goal while playing for the Italian national team, which boosted his confidence. The UCL campaign for the Biancoceleste began with a match against Atletico Madrid, where they hosted the latter. The match ended with a 1-1 draw, with goalkeeper Ivan Provedel contributing a late equalizer.

According to LazioNews24, Immobile has five goals in five UCL appearances for the Biancoceleste, the same number as Sinisa Mihajlovic who is ranked third in the club's all-time top goalscorer in Europe's elite competition.

Above him is Claudio Lopez with six goals and Simone Inzaghi with 15 goals at the top, which means he still has a long way to go to equal this record.

On the first occasion, despite having five matches remaining in the group stage, the 33-year-old striker failed to score in the first encounter against Atletico Madrid.
