Sarri: "Luis Alberto? He Serves As A Leader For The Entire Team And Even Played Through A Minor Adductor Issue. Vecino? He Scored A Pivotal Goal And Has Consistently Been A Solution Provider This Season."

After their 3-2 victory against Atalanta in the Italian Serie A League match on Sunday (8/10/2023) at the Olimpico stadium in Rome, Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri shared his thoughts on the game. Sarri praised the significance of Luis Alberto's contributions to the team and also acknowledged the problem-solving abilities of Matias Vecino, who scored the winning goal. By recognizing Vecino's contribution, Sarri demonstrated his belief in the importance of strategic team members to secure victories.

In the absence of their primary striker, Ciro Immobile, Lazio had to make do with a replacement. Taty Castellanos stepped up to the challenge and managed to score his debut goal in Serie A for Lazio.

"The first 25 minutes of the match were exceptionally impressive. However, it was regrettable that we didn't manage to score more goals during those early minutes. The primary objective for the day was to survive the intense heat, which made it impossible to maintain the same level of energy throughout the game." Continued the former Chelsea coach.

Luis Alberto was taken off and he was seen sitting on the bench with ice wrapped around his ankle. However, he did not just sit idly as he joined Sarri and assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello to offer guidance, almost as if he were part of the coaching staff.

"He serves as a leader for the entire team and even played through a minor adductor issue. I noticed his struggles in the second half, which is expected given the extensive number of games he's played."

Sarri also discussed Matias Vecino's performance, the player responsible for Lazio's winning goal.

"Vecino scored a pivotal goal and has consistently been a solution provider this season. He performed exceptionally well in the Champions League earlier this week, and although I opted not to field him for the entire match today, his influence was substantial," Sarri shared with DAZN following the game.
