Immobile's Mission: Goals, Challenges, And Ambitions For The National Team

February 26, 2024

Ciro Immobile has a number of goals to accomplish before the season concludes: leading Lazio back to the Champions League, maintaining his streak of double-digit goals for the eighth consecutive season, potentially moving to Germany, and making himself available for Mr. Spalletti's new national team.

Sarri has devised a plan to manage Immobile's energy, allowing him an hour of play if he starts the match or thirty minutes if he comes off the bench. Following the upcoming match against Milan, the team will travel to Munich with the objective of defending their lead against Tuchel's side. Despite these commitments, Immobile appears set to start against Fiorentina.

After the crucial victory against Torino, securing more points is imperative to edge closer to fourth or fifth place in the standings. Strengthening the team seems necessary, especially considering Zaccagni's long-term injury and Pedro's dip in form. However, Sarri opts to field the same lineup against Fiorentina, relying on Immobile's attacking prowess and the speed of Felipe and Isaksen.

Immobile has an impressive record against Fiorentina, having scored eight goals in their encounters, resulting in seven wins and a draw. Notably, he has been involved in six goals (four goals and two assists) in his last five appearances at the Franchi. These statistics are likely to influence Sarri's lineup decisions. Furthermore, Immobile aims to surpass personal milestones, with Roberto Baggio (205) and Antonio Di Natale (209) within reach after scoring his 200th goal.

Securing a spot in the national team is also among Immobile's objectives. Despite Spalletti initially calling him up for his debut, competition for a starting position remains fierce, with Scamacca emerging as a favorite despite losing his starting spot at Atalanta. Immobile sees this as an opportunity to reclaim his place, especially with other contenders such as Kean and Retegui facing challenges.
