Vecino At The Crossroads: The Uncertain Future Of Lazio's Veteran Midfielder

The future of veteran Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino at Lazio is uncertain as he approaches the final 18 months of his contract in Italy. Despite being a key player under Maurizio Sarri, Vecino now faces the challenge of proving himself under new coach Igor Tudor.

Vecino, 32, arrived at Lazio on a free transfer in August 2022 and quickly became a trusted player under Sarri. However, following an altercation with Sarri earlier this season, Vecino was temporarily sidelined but has since returned to regular action. In the current campaign, he has featured in 30 matches, playing a total of 1342 minutes and scoring four goals across all competitions.

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Lazio will assess Vecino's future this summer, considering three possible options. The first option is to negotiate a new contract with Vecino, extending his stay at the club. The second option involves seeking interest from other clubs for Vecino's services. Lastly, Vecino may choose to fulfill his existing contract with Lazio until June 2025.
