Lazio Block Celtic’s Move For Isaksen, Reaffirm Winger’s Importance
Celtic’s hope of landing Danish winger Gustav Isaksen have taken a hit, as Lazio have made it clear they have no intention of letting the rising star leave the Italian capital this summer.
The Scottish champions, searching for a replacement following Jota’s long-term ACL injury, had reignited their interest in Isaksen—having previously failed to secure his signature in the final days of the last transfer window. Back then, Celtic proposed a loan deal with an option to buy, but Lazio declined.
Now, with Jota sidelined for up to nine months, Celtic have again approached Lazio, hoping to revisit the possibility of bringing in the 24-year-old winger. However, reports from Il Messaggero suggest that both the club and the player’s entourage remain unconvinced by the offer. Other suitors, including Premier League side Tottenham and Serie A rivals Bologna, are also reportedly monitoring the situation.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito was quick to shut down speculation. “We’ve built a team of fighters,” Lotito stated. “We believe in Isaksen—he’s shown flashes of brilliance and we’re committed to helping him grow. He’s part of a long-term project here.”
Director of football Angelo Mariano Fabiani has also been firm in his stance, emphasizing that the club sees Isaksen as a key figure for the future, especially following his strong performances in the latter half of the season.
Celtic may now have to explore alternative targets as Lazio hold firm on keeping one of their most promising talents at Formello.
