Lazio’s Over-30 Players Step Up When It Matters Most

While many clubs emphasize youth and raw athleticism, Lazio continues to thrive thanks to the brilliance and reliability of their seasoned veterans. This season, the Biancoceleste's over-30 players have proven to be the backbone of the squad, consistently delivering crucial performances in key moments.

According to Il Messaggero, Lazio's older core has contributed directly to 14 valuable points in the league—thanks to game-changing goals and solid leadership. Whether it's Matias Vecino’s decisive strike against Juventus, Pedro’s brace in the clash with Parma, Romagnoli’s derby heroics, or Adam Marusic’s crucial finish against Torino, the impact of Lazio’s veterans cannot be overstated.

In the backline, only a few defenders remain under 30—namely full-backs Luca Pellegrini and Nuno Tavares, and centre-backs Mario Gila and Oliver Provstgaard. The rest of the defensive unit relies on the calm and experienced presence of players like Romagnoli and Samuel Gigot, each of whom has already scored twice this campaign.

Between the posts, Ivan Provedel (31) has been a dependable figure, registering 53 saves this season. Youngster Christos Mandas, who recently turned 23, has also stepped up, becoming a starter in April and delivering 17 saves in limited appearances.

In midfield, Vecino remains the only over-30 figure, but his influence extends beyond age—his timely goals and positional sense often give Lazio the edge in close matches. Up front, 37-year-old Pedro continues to defy time, injecting creativity and tempo every time he comes off the bench. Despite not being the top scorer—Taty Castellanos holds that title with 10 goals—Pedro’s presence regularly shifts the dynamic of games.

Marusic, born in 1992, has enjoyed a standout year as well, matching winger Gustav Isaksen with four goals—impressive numbers for a full-back. Dele-Bashiru leads the midfield scoring chart with three goals, further highlighting the balanced contributions from all age brackets.

Lazio’s veteran class proves that age is not a limitation but rather a secret weapon—one that continues to secure points and lead by example, blending perfectly with the club's emerging talents.
