Provedel Faces Uncertain Future At Lazio As Torino, Udinese & Como Prepare To Open Talks

Ivan Provedel's position at Lazio has dramatically shifted. Once a guaranteed starter, the 30-year-old goalkeeper has now been overtaken by young standout Christos Mandas and finds himself relegated to the role of backup. It's a demotion that has prompted serious contemplation for both the player and the club.

Despite acknowledging his dip in form this season — partly influenced by off-field issues — Provedel remains eager to reclaim a starting spot. He still views himself as a key player and hopes to revive his career with consistent playing time. However, with Mandas proving to be a reliable and promising presence between the posts at just 23 years old, Lazio appears to be leaning toward the future.

Complicating the situation further is Provedel’s salary, among the highest at the club, amounting to €3.7 million gross per year. With UEFA’s financial regulations tightening — mandating clubs to limit their wage bill to 70% of total revenue — Lazio is increasingly pressed to offload expensive contracts, especially those tied to players no longer central to their plans.

As a result, Provedel has now become available on the transfer market. Several Serie A clubs have shown interest, including Torino — who are preparing for life after Milinkovic-Savic — as well as Como and Udinese. The Biancoceleste reportedly value him at around €7 million, though that fee is open for negotiation.

Should Provedel depart, Lazio will face a crucial decision: bring in an experienced but low-profile backup to support Mandas, or opt for an Under-22 talent who won’t take up a senior squad slot — an important consideration under Italian squad registration rules. While internal options like Furlanetto and Renzetti exist, they are considered long shots for the role.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the future of Lazio’s goalkeeping department is set to be one of the club’s most closely watched stories — with Mandas firmly established, and the race on to determine who will serve as his deputy.
