[Official] Romano Floriani Joins Cremonese On Loan
Lazio continue to reshape their squad for the new season, and one of their promising academy graduates, Romano Floriani Mussolini, will embark on a fresh chapter in his career. The 22-year-old defender has officially completed a move to Cremonese on loan, with the Serie A newcomers holding an option to purchase him at the end of the campaign.
Floriani Mussolini, who has developed through the ranks at Formello, spent the last two years gaining experience with loan spells at Pescara and Juve Stabia. His solid displays, especially in Serie B last season, convinced Juve Stabia to trigger a purchase option—only for Lazio to swiftly exercise their right of re-purchase and bring the player back to Rome.
Despite his progress, fierce competition for places in Maurizio Sarri’s back line meant first-team opportunities remained limited, with the likes of Hysaj, Lazzari, and Marusic often favored. Eager for regular playing time, Floriani attracted attention from both Italian and foreign clubs this summer, including interest from Udinese and English side Watford. Ultimately, however, it was Cremonese who succeeded in securing his services.
The official announcement came on Monday through Lazio’s website, confirming Floriani’s temporary transfer to Cremonese, with the possibility for the move to become permanent at season’s end.
While reports suggest that Cremonese could secure the defender outright for a fee of €5 million, it remains to be seen if Lazio will insert a buy-back clause, ensuring they retain an option to reclaim one of their most promising prospects—much like the arrangement previously made with Juve Stabia.
As Floriani heads to Cremona, both clubs and player hope that regular Serie A action will further his development and clarify his long-term future.
