[Friendly] Lazio - Atromitos = 2 - 0

Lazio closed their preseason in Rieti with a 2-0 victory against Atromitos on Saturday evening. The team showed good spirit before the start of Serie A, although the match will be remembered just as much for Taty Castellanos being sent off in the first half.

Maurizio Sarri once again used his usual 4-3-3 formation but rotated the squad to give different players minutes. Christos Mandas started in goal, with Lazzari, Gila, Provstgaard and Pellegrini across the defense. In midfield, Cataldi played in the center with Guendouzi and Dele-Bashiru. Up front, Castellanos was joined by Zaccagni and Cancellieri on the wings.

The first half had more fights than chances. It began with a clash between Guendouzi and Joaquin Ruiz, which earned both players a yellow card. A few minutes later, things became worse when Castellanos reacted strongly after being fouled by Luiz. He got into a fight with defender Mansur, and soon both benches were involved in the chaos.

The referee sent off Castellanos and Mansur, and the two players continued their argument in the tunnel, creating more noise off the pitch than on it.

After the break the game calmed down, and Lazio took control. Zaccagni looked dangerous and forced a fine save from Koselsv in the Atromitos goal. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 76th minute when Adam Marusic crossed into the box and Tijjani Noslin scored with a powerful header.

Atromitos thought they had equalized late in the game through Ožegović, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Soon after, Pedro showed his class, dribbling past defenders and finishing with his left foot to secure a 2-0 win.

With this result, Lazio finish preseason with two straight victories against Burnley and Atromitos. The team can take confidence into the new season, even if Castellanos’ red card left a negative note.

Next weekend Lazio begin their Serie A journey away to Como, where the real challenges will start.
