Vecino And Belahyane Back In Action As Lazio Prepare For Serie A Opener Against Como

Lazio have been handed a timely boost as Maurizio Sarri is set to welcome back Reda Belahyane and Matias Vecino for their Serie A curtain-raiser away to Como this weekend. Both midfielders had been dealing with injuries but are now expected to be available for selection.

Vecino, the experienced Uruguayan, had been sidelined after complaining of muscle fatigue in his left calf last week, which ruled him out of the friendly against Burnley. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, medical checks revealed no muscle damage, allowing the 33-year-old to resume full training ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Stadio Sinigaglia.

Belahyane’s situation followed a similar trajectory. The young Moroccan suffered an ankle sprain and was initially ruled out for 10 days. However, his recovery has progressed faster than anticipated, and he is now in line to feature against Cesc Fabregas’s newly promoted side on August 24.

Not all injury concerns have been resolved. Samuel Gigot remains a doubt as he continues to work individually at Formello. The French defender has been out since July 20 with a lower back problem and, as the Rome daily reports, is not currently considered a central figure in Sarri’s plans. His place in the Serie A squad is now under serious question.

In other updates, Patric is eyeing a return for Lazio’s first home fixture of the season against Hellas Verona on August 31. Meanwhile, Gustav Isaksen is still on the road to recovery after his pre-season was disrupted by infectious mononucleosis, making his participation against Como unlikely.

With Vecino and Belahyane back in the mix, Sarri will have greater depth in midfield as Lazio look to start their league campaign on the front foot against a motivated Como side eager to make an impression in the top flight.
