[Serie A] Lazio - Roma = 0 - 1
AS Roma came out on top in the Derby della Capitale after narrowly defeating Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday (September 21). The clash unfolded at a moderate tempo, with both teams showing balance in possession and discipline in their play.
Lazio created several promising moves that reached Roma’s penalty box, but the Biancoceleste couldn’t turn those chances into goals. Instead, it was the Giallorossi who broke the deadlock. A mistake from Nuno Tavares allowed Matias Soule to set up Lorenzo Pellegrini, who calmly finished from close range in the 38th minute.
Just before halftime, Soule nearly doubled Roma’s lead from a free kick, but Ivan Provedel was alert to deny him. The Lazio goalkeeper again came to the rescue in stoppage time, blocking another Soule effort.
Roma continued their attacking momentum in the second half, while Lazio looked to respond through quick counterattacks. Both sides carved out opportunities, yet the score remained unchanged. Lazio’s task grew harder in the 86th minute when Reda Belahyane was shown a red card.
In stoppage time, Danilo Cataldi almost salvaged a draw for Lazio, but his strike rattled the post. The final whistle confirmed Roma’s 1-0 win. To add to Lazio’s frustration, Matteo Guendouzi was also sent off late on for excessive protests.
With this result, Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma move up to fourth place on nine points, while Lazio remain stuck in 13th.
