Isaksen’s Second Chance Emerges After Cancellieri’s Injury As Lazio Gear Up For Vital Juventus Encounter

The verdict is in for Matteo Cancellieri, and it is far from encouraging. The winger faces at least one month on the sidelines, ruling him out of crucial fixtures against Juventus, Cagliari, Pisa, and Inter. It is a heavy setback for Maurizio Sarri, who loses one of his most in-form players, a man responsible for three of Lazio’s last six goals. His replacement will be Gustav Isaksen, who has only recently returned after a long battle with mononucleosis that sidelined him for much of the summer.

In the recent clash with Atalanta, the Danish winger played 74 minutes including stoppage time, showing flashes of his potential despite not yet being in peak condition. His physical sharpness remains a work in progress, as evidenced by Ederson’s early recovery runs during the first half. Still, there were encouraging signs: three fouls won, four forward passes completed, and one ball recovered. As reported by Il Messaggero, it will take at least another month before he reaches his best level, but Cancellieri’s injury could prove to be the window of opportunity he needs.

Now, the stage is set for Isaksen in the high-profile encounter with Juventus. A full stadium and the pressure of a marquee match will provide both challenge and motivation. During Igor Tudor’s time in charge, Isaksen managed only 220 minutes out of a possible 990, considered too physically fragile to handle the intensity of Serie A. Under Sarri, however, the situation could change. With a run of games ahead, Isaksen now has the chance to reverse the hierarchy and perhaps even prove his former coach wrong by reclaiming his place as one of Lazio’s brightest attacking options
