Insigne Edges Closer To Lazio As He Begins Searching For A Home Near Formello
The January transfer window is approaching, and for the first time in several sessions, Lazio appear ready to give Maurizio Sarri exactly what he wants. The coach’s primary target is Lorenzo Insigne, and according to the latest reports, the club are now working to accommodate that request.
Il Messaggero reports that Insigne’s arrival at Lazio is becoming increasingly realistic. In the last few hours, new contacts have taken place, followed by a decisive meeting and an agreement on the player’s salary. The financial package would be covered by the savings generated from Fares’ move to Forte Virtus and the sales of Tchaouna and Casale.
Insigne is currently still in Naples, but preparations for his return to Serie A are moving quickly. The former Toronto forward has already begun searching for a home near Formello, a sign that the transition is well underway. According to the newspaper, the 34 year old could arrive sooner than expected. With special insurance permission, he could start training with the squad while waiting to officially sign in mid December, when the zero balance transfer window is expected to be approved.
The delay in formalizing the signing is linked to administrative issues. Lazio still need to complete the documentation for the quarterly report dated 30 September, and early indications suggest that the club may have exceeded the extended labor cost limit, which should be around eighty one percent. Once the paperwork is finalized and the budget rules verified, the club plan to proceed with the signing.
For Sarri, the arrival of Insigne would represent the return of one of his most trusted players. Their time together at Napoli produced some of the most fluid and effective football in the league. Lazio hope that reuniting the pair can provide a technical spark and much needed creativity for the second half of the season.
With negotiations progressing and both sides aligned in their intentions, Insigne’s comeback to Italian football is no longer just a possibility. For Lazio, it could become the most significant move of their winter campaign.
