Lazio Target U21 Midfielder Tommaso Berti As Sarri Seeks Young Italian Talent For January
Lazio are actively searching for players who fit Maurizio Sarri’s technical vision ahead of the January transfer window. The club is widening its scouting network, and the latest name to emerge comes from Serie B and the Italian Under 21 national team.
While Lotito and Fabiani continue to monitor prospects in foreign second divisions, their attention is increasingly turning toward the domestic market. Sarri prefers players who can adapt quickly to his system, and Italian youngsters often provide the tactical background and mentality he is looking for.
There is also a regulatory incentive behind this strategy. Beginning next summer, the extended labor cost indicator will drop from 0.8 to 0.7, but expenses related to Italian Under 23 players who are eligible for the national team will be excluded from the calculation. This creates an additional reason for Lazio to invest in young Italian talent rather than in foreign projects requiring longer adaptation.
According to Il Messaggero, Sarri has identified Tommaso Berti as a potential reinforcement for the midfield. Born in 2004, the Cesena midfielder has already made his debut with the Italy Under 21 team, scoring one goal in two appearances. Standing at approximately one meter seventy one, Berti is a compact and technically gifted player who operates comfortably between the lines. His vision and ability to provide service to his teammates have been key features of his game.
In the first half of the current Serie B season, Berti has collected one goal and four assists in thirteen appearances, establishing himself as one of Cesena’s most promising talents. The main obstacle for Lazio is his contract situation. Berti recently renewed his deal with the Emilia Romagna club until 2028, which could complicate negotiations. However, a move to Lazio and the opportunity to work under Sarri may change the player’s trajectory.
With January approaching, Lazio continue to explore young Italian profiles who can strengthen the squad both immediately and in the long term. Berti represents exactly the type of midfielder Sarri appreciates and could become one of the most intriguing stories of the upcoming winter market
