Nantes Show Interest In Gigot As Lazio Plan His Exit

Lazio are working on two fronts this January: adding the right pieces for Maurizio Sarri, and finding solutions for the players who are no longer part of the technical plan at Formello. One of the clearest cases is Samuel Gigot, a name that quickly slipped to the margins after Sarri’s return.

Gigot spent the previous season mainly as a supporting option under Marco Baroni, but his situation changed immediately in the summer. Physical issues slowed him during the early weeks of preseason, and Sarri never truly opened the door for him. Since then, the French centre back’s season has turned into a long wait, made even more complicated by ankle surgery that reportedly created posture problems and back discomfort.

Now, Lazio are ready to move on. Interest has arrived from Nantes, a Ligue 1 club willing to offer Gigot a chance to restart in a league he knows well. For the defender, it would mean minutes, rhythm, and the possibility to rebuild confidence after a difficult period off the pitch.

From Lazio’s side, the logic is mostly financial. The club would like to recover the investment made in August 2024, estimated at around 4.3 million euros. Talks with Nantes are expected to include a loan with an option to buy, although the final figures are still being discussed. Lazio’s position is clear: they want a solution, but they do not want to sell the player at a discount.

There is also the wage factor. Gigot’s salary is reported to be around 2.5 million euros net per year, and moving him out would reduce costs at least until the end of the season. That would give Lazio more flexibility in the market, both for potential arrivals and for managing the squad balance Sarri has been asking for.

The next days should be decisive. Nantes are interested, Lazio want a structured deal, and Gigot is looking for a fresh start. All signs point toward a return to France as the most realistic way to close this chapter.
