[Serie A] Hellas Verona - Lazio = 0 - 1
Lazio finally returned to winning ways in Serie A after edging Hellas Verona in a tense match at the Stadio Bentegodi. The Biancoceleste won 1 to 0 thanks to an own goal by Victor Nelsson in the 79th minute, a result that stopped a four game league winless streak.
The game was tight and cautious for long periods. Lazio had plenty of the ball but struggled to turn possession into clear chances, while Verona looked to stay compact and break quickly when space opened up.
A key talking point was the debut of Kenneth Taylor, thrown into the starting lineup in midfield shortly after his arrival, as Sarri dealt with absences and squad issues.
The breakthrough arrived late. Manuel Lazzari pushed forward and fired from a tight angle. Nelsson tried to block it, but the touch turned into a cruel deflection that looped over Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò and into the net, recorded as an own goal.
Lazio then had to manage the final minutes with discipline, surviving late pressure and holding on for a narrow but important away victory.
This win gives Sarri a much needed boost at the start of 2026 and keeps Lazio in the European race. It does not put Lazio top of the league table, but it does move them closer to the leading pack, with reports noting they are now within reach of the top six.
