[Coppa Italia] Lazio - Atalanta = 2 - 2

Lazio missed a big chance to take control of their Coppa Italia semi final after being held to a dramatic 2 to 2 draw by Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on March 4, 2026. In a strange atmosphere shaped by the ongoing supporter boycott, Maurizio Sarri’s side led twice, but Atalanta answered both times to keep the tie fully alive ahead of the return leg in Bergamo.

The night was played in front of a heavily reduced crowd. Reports around the game described an Olimpico with only a few thousand spectators inside, with protesting fans making their presence felt from outside rather than in their usual seats.

Atalanta actually thought they had struck first early on, when Nikola Krstović found the net, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside, with Davide Zappacosta narrowly in an illegal position during the move.

After a tense first half, the match exploded after the break. Lazio opened the scoring through Fisayo Dele Bashiru, finishing a well worked move that involved Daniel Maldini.

The lead did not last long. Mario Pašalić levelled for Atalanta after reacting quickest to a rebound from Ivan Provedel.

Lazio responded again when Boulaye Dia punished a mistake from PaÅ¡alić to restore the home side’s advantage. But, once more, Atalanta had an answer. Yunus Musah struck late after being picked out by Kamaldeen Sulemana, making it 2 to 2 and leaving everything to be decided in the second leg.

After full time, Sarri pointed to the missing Olimpico atmosphere as a factor, arguing Lazio might have been able to carry the win over the line with the fans behind them.

The tie now moves to Bergamo later in April, with the second leg scheduled for April 22 according to major fixtures listings, and the stakes could not be clearer: one good night can still turn this cup run into the defining story of Lazio’s season.
