Maurizio Sarri Asks Lazio To Sign Daniele Rugani From Juventus

Lazio is reportedly interested in signing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani this summer. Coach Maurizio Sarri knows him very well having coached him during his time at Empoli as well as the Bianconeri.

According to reports by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the new coach of the Biancoceleste, Maurizio Sarri wants to sign 26-year-old Italian defender Daniele Rugani who he knows well because the two have worked together at Empoli and Juventus.

The Bianconeri defender endured a tough season in 2020/21 after spending the first six months on loan at Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, returning in January and returning to Serie A side Cagliari.

Daniele Rugani's tenure in Ligue 1 last season was plagued by a hamstring injury that limited his appearances to just two times over six months. However, with Cagliari, he has made 16 appearances since the start of this year. While with the Bianconeri for five years overall the defender has made 101 appearances and contributed 7 goals in all competitions.

Rugani started his professional career with Empoli in Serie B in 2013 where he helped his club get promoted to Serie A and was voted Serie B player of the year in 2014. His impressive form in defense earned him the Serie A Team of the Year in 2015 and signed for Juventus, where he won five Serie A titles in a row, two Coppa Italias, and two Italian Super Cups.
