Sarri: "Things Aren't Going Well Right Now. We Need To Perform Better, We Must Regain Our Attacking Threat, And Our Defense Is Not As Strong As It Was Last Season."

After the 1-1 draw against Monza in their recent Serie A match on Saturday (23/09) evening at the Olimpico stadium, Maurizio Sarri acknowledged that Lazio's fans had every right to mock the team. The Italian coach also pointed out the peculiar mindset of his team.

At the beginning of the season, Lazio experienced an unusual start, only acquiring four points in their first five Serie A matches. The only game they managed to win away from home was against the current champions, Napoli. On Saturday evening, they were unable to secure a victory against Monza and instead ended up with a draw at home.

Lazio's beginning to the season was their poorest in years, matching their performance from the 2001/02 season. The team was met with disapproval from their supporters after the match.

"Until the equalizer, we were passive and gave the game away to our opponents, so we deserve to be booed," Sarri said via Sky Sport Italia. "After that, the game became more open and we also had chances, hitting the crossbar and wasting opportunities with the goalkeeper not reacting." Said Sarri via Sky Sport Italia.

"Things aren't going well right now, but as we said before the game, it's difficult to believe we'll get out of this funk quickly. We need to perform better, but we're having trouble right now."

Ciro Immobile broke his goalless streak by successfully converting a penalty at the beginning of the match, which was caused by Patrick Ciurria's foul on Mattia Zaccagni. Despite this, Monza was the team that generated most of the scoring opportunities. In the 36th minute, Roberto Gagliardini evened the score, leading to Ivan Provedel having to make a save. Furthermore, two goals were nullified due to being offside.

"The priority is to get results because it will boost our enthusiasm and alleviate some of our anxiety. Furthermore, we must regain our attacking threat, since we continue to create very few chances in possession, and our defense is not as strong as it was last season."
