Bournemouth Target Lazio’s Mario Gila After Huijsen Exit

Following the confirmed departure of Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid, Bournemouth have turned their attention to Lazio’s rising defensive star Mario Gila as a potential replacement, according to reports from TuttoMercatoWeb and Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish centre-back has made a strong impression in Serie A since joining Lazio from Real Madrid for €6 million. This season, Gila has established himself as a key figure in the Biancocelesti’s defense, recording 42 appearances, scoring twice, and helping the team secure 12 clean sheets—a testament to his growing influence in the Italian top flight.

Gila, a product of Real Madrid’s famed academy, brings with him not only technical quality but also experience at the top level. Although his time in Madrid’s first team was brief, he was part of the squad that lifted the La Liga trophy in the 2021/22 season, earning a winner’s medal in the process.

Bournemouth’s interest in Gila comes on the back of their recent success with Huijsen, who made a big impact in his debut Premier League campaign and helped guide the Cherries to an impressive 11th-place finish. The Dutch defender’s performances attracted the attention of European giants, culminating in a lucrative €59.5 million move to Real Madrid—a significant return for the South Coast club.

With the Premier League side now preparing for their final match of the season against Leicester City, plans are already in motion for next season’s squad. Meanwhile, Lazio are gearing up for a crucial fixture against Lecce at the Stadio Olimpico, with Champions League hopes still alive.
