[Serie A] Lazio - Lecce = 0 - 1

In their final Serie A fixture on Sunday, Lazio lost their game 1-0 at home to struggling Lecce, leaving them in seventh place and out of European competition next season.

Lecce, desperate to maintain their Serie A status, came out of the blocks determined and fashioned the game’s decisive moment in the 43rd minute. Lassana Coulibaly broke the deadlock after linking up with Nikola Krstovic, giving the visitors a crucial lead just before half-time.

Late in first-half stoppage time, Santiago Perotti was shown a second yellow for fouling Nuno Tavares, forcing Lecce to play the rest of the match with ten men.

Despite the numerical advantage after the break, Lazio struggled to break down a resolute Lecce back line. Managerial substitutions—including the introduction of Pedro—sparked a series of threatening moves, but each effort was thwarted by an inspired display from Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.

Tensions flared again deep into stoppage time when Lazio player Alessio Romagnoli was dismissed for a two-footed challenge, but the one-goal margin remained intact as the final whistle blew.

Lecce’s victory lifted them to 17th place with 34 points—sufficient to steer clear of relegation and finish above Empoli, Venezia, and Monza. Lazio, by contrast, ended the campaign on 65 points, narrowly missing out on European qualification after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker with Fiorentina.
