Lotito: "The Team Are In Place. I Brought Sarri Back To Get The Most Out Of Every Player. The Coach Will Assess The Squad During Pre-season And, If Anyone Doesn’t Fit, They Will Be Replaced."

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has set the tone for the club’s summer transfer window, emphasizing stability and rejecting any notion of a fire sale, even after the disappointment of missing out on European competition next season.

With the team facing both sporting and financial challenges, speculation has been rife among fans and pundits that Lazio may be forced to cash in on their biggest stars. However, Lotito, speaking candidly in an interview with Il Messaggero, has moved quickly to allay those fears.

Despite confirming that Lazio’s current squad is too large for a season without European football—boasting 28 players—the president made it clear that none of the club’s cornerstone talents will be leaving. Lotito specifically named Taty Castellanos, Matteo Guendouzi, Nicolo Rovella, Gustav Isaksen, and Nuno Tavares as players who will not be sold, even in the face of lucrative transfer offers.

“I’ve turned down big bids for Rovella, Tavares, Isaksen, Guendouzi, and Castellanos,” Lotito said. “We have to offload surplus players because we only have one competition plus the Coppa Italia. But the backbone of the team stays. I will not sell anyone else.”

Lotito admitted that with a trimmed fixture list, the club will be more selective about any new signings, prioritizing the quality and fit of any incoming players rather than simply adding numbers.

“Right now, there is no need to buy. In fact, we have the opposite problem: too many players,” he explained. The club’s focus will be on reducing the squad size and ensuring that only those who fit into the coach’s plans remain.

The Lazio president also highlighted the return of Maurizio Sarri as head coach, drawing a parallel with Antonio Conte’s impact at Napoli. Lotito is confident that Sarri is the right man to maximize the team’s potential in the coming campaign.

“The team are in place. I brought Sarri back to get the most out of every player, just like Conte did at Napoli. The coach will assess the squad during pre-season and, if anyone doesn’t fit, they will be replaced.”

As Lazio prepare for a season without the distractions of European competition, Lotito’s message is clear: the club are committed to holding onto their stars and building a cohesive, competitive team. The summer will be one of careful adjustments rather than wholesale changes, as the Biancoceleste look to bounce back stronger next year.
