Pedro: "I’m Happy. Lazio Are A Club Where I’ve Found Joy Again. My Kids Get To See Me Play, And That’s Special."
It’s the news Lazio supporters have been waiting for: Pedro, the veteran Spanish winger, has officially renewed his contract with the Biancoceleste for another season. The 37-year-old, whose performances continue to defy age, remains a fan favorite thanks to his work rate, experience, and professionalism—qualities that have earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and fans alike.
Pedro’s extension follows a standout season in which he played a key role for Lazio, winning over new coach Maurizio Sarri, who has expressed his admiration for the veteran attacker both publicly and privately. In a heartfelt interview with Spanish newspaper El Dia, Pedro opened up about his happiness in Rome, his gratitude for the chance to keep playing at a high level, and the emotional milestones that have defined his illustrious career.
“I’m happy. Lazio are a club where I’ve found joy again,” Pedro shared. “Even though age is a factor and my time is limited, I’m really enjoying this stage. I feel like a footballer again. I want to give 100% for another season and treasure every moment because I know it won’t last forever.”
Pedro reflected on the evolution of his approach to the game. Where once there was pressure and expectation at Barcelona, now there is a deeper appreciation for each match—especially with his family watching from the stands and his children sometimes joining him at training. “I enjoy every game much more now. My kids get to see me play, and that’s special. I’m still very demanding of myself; staying at the top level for so long is never easy.”
Despite receiving interest from elsewhere, Pedro’s commitment to Lazio never wavered. “Yes, there were other offers, but I’ve been fortunate to always have interest from clubs and friends in football. But Lazio feels like home.”
The World Cup winner also spoke with pride about the enduring bond between Spain’s 2010 champions, noting that only he and Sergio Ramos remain active. “We’re already planning a reunion with the Federation. It was a special group, and those friendships have lasted.”
Looking back on his journey, Pedro recalled the sacrifices he made as a youth at Barcelona’s La Masía academy—leaving his family at 16, adapting to a new environment, and maturing quickly in pursuit of his dream. “There were tough moments, but the support from coaches and family made all the difference.”
Pedro also discussed the changing landscape of football, advising young players to invest in nutrition and training for longevity, and offered high praise for fellow Canary Islander Pedri as his Ballon d’Or pick.
As he enters what could be his final season, Pedro is clear about his goal: “To retire happy, to enjoy this last year at Lazio, and hopefully win another title. I want my family to enjoy my last matches and to stay connected to football in some way.”
Off the pitch, Pedro remains active with his foundation, bringing joy and inspiration to young footballers in the Canary Islands.
