Lazio Preparing Loan Bid For Juventus’ Nico Gonzalez With Option To Buy Attached

Lazio are weighing up a move for Juventus winger Nico Gonzalez, with head coach Maurizio Sarri reportedly making the Argentine attacker a key target for this summer’s transfer window.

After a challenging debut season in Turin, Gonzalez could be on his way out just a year after joining Juventus from Fiorentina for around €33 million. The Bianconeri are said to be open to selling the 27-year-old, provided any interested club meets their €30 million valuation—a figure needed to avoid a loss on their investment.

Gonzalez arrived at Juventus with high expectations but has struggled to fully adapt, recording five goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. Despite flashes of promise, he failed to secure a regular starting spot under either Thiago Motta or Igor Tudor. With Juventus now seeking to reshape their squad for the upcoming season—especially after confirming Tudor’s stay as head coach—Gonzalez is one of several players who could be moved on to free up resources for new signings.

Maurizio Sarri, meanwhile, has made no secret of his intention to strengthen Lazio’s options on the wings. According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Sarri and sporting director Angelo Fabiani have held extensive talks regarding potential transfer targets, with Gonzalez emerging as the latest name under serious consideration.

However, the deal is far from straightforward. Lazio’s transfer budget remains constrained due to financial fair play and a challenging liquidity index. One possible solution could be an initial loan deal with a purchase option, allowing the Roman club to delay the bulk of the investment until next summer. Whether Juventus would accept such an arrangement remains to be seen.

Lazio’s interest in Gonzalez is also linked to Sarri’s desire to reshape his squad, with several current players potentially on the way out to make room for new arrivals. Should Lazio manage to finalize outgoings, a move for Gonzalez could accelerate.

For the Argentine winger, a switch to Lazio could offer a fresh start and the opportunity for more regular playing time in a system that could better suit his style. While Juventus look ahead to bolstering their attack with names like Viktor Gyokeres or Victor Osimhen, Gonzalez may soon be embarking on a new adventure in the Italian capital—if the clubs can agree on terms.
