[Friendly] Avellino - Lazio = 0 - 1
Lazio lifted the Sandro Criscitiello Memorial trophy after edging Serie B newcomers Avellino 1-0, thanks to a last-gasp penalty converted by Mattéo Guendouzi deep into stoppage time at the Benito Stirpe Stadium in Frosinone.
It was a hard-fought encounter, with Lazio facing strong resistance from an Avellino side determined to prove its worth ahead of its return to the second tier. The breakthrough came in the 92nd minute when Tijjani Noslin, one of Maurizio Sarri’s summer additions, earned a penalty following a foul by Frascatore. Guendouzi calmly slotted the ball past Daffara to clinch the win for the Biancocelesti.
Despite the defeat, Avellino’s Luca Palmiero was named Man of the Match, a testament to the Serie B side’s balanced and disciplined performance. Lazio, however, created numerous chances throughout, including a disallowed goal by Castellanos and a powerful crossbar hit by Gila, highlighting their offensive intent even if the final score remained narrow.
With two wins from two in preseason so far, Lazio now shift their focus to their upcoming tour in Turkey. The Biancoceleste will face Fenerbahçe on Wednesday, July 30, followed by a clash against Galatasaray on Saturday, August 2 — key tests in preparation for the new Serie A season.
