[Official] São Paulo Extend Marcos Antonio’s Loan Until June 2026 With Option To Buy
Midfielder Marcos Antonio will continue his spell in Brazil after São Paulo FC officially confirmed the extension of his loan from Lazio. The new agreement, valid until June 30, 2026, includes an option for the club to make the transfer permanent. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting a permanent move, the deal remains a loan since São Paulo does not currently have the funds to pay the previously agreed €4.2 million transfer fee.
The 25-year-old, who first joined São Paulo last July after a brief stint with Greek side PAOK, has gradually established himself within the squad. Marcos Antonio struggled for minutes during his time at Lazio, but has found a much warmer welcome—and greater opportunities—in Brazil.
“It’s a very happy moment for me,” the midfielder told the club’s official channels after signing the new contract. “Since my first day here, I was welcomed with open arms. That confidence was key for me to adapt and show my best football.”
Marcos Antonio’s time in Brazil has been marked by steady growth. After featuring in 14 matches last year, the 25-year-old has already racked up 20 appearances this season, starting 17 times and becoming a regular name on the team sheet. His progress comes despite overcoming a recent injury to his left thigh, with the player now back in full training and looking ahead to a promising campaign.
The midfielder also praised the influence of coach Hernán Crespo and his staff. “Having the whole squad together is crucial. The work we are doing now will pay off during the season,” Antonio added.
With his future secured at Morumbi for at least another year, Marcos Antonio is focused on helping São Paulo chase success on all fronts—while Lazio retains the option to finalize a permanent transfer should both parties be satisfied with his development.
