[Official] Ruggeri Leaves Lazio To Join Carrarese On A Permanent Deal
Lazio have confirmed the departure of promising young defender Fabio Andrea Ruggeri, who joins Serie B side Carrarese on a permanent deal. Despite his potential, the 19-year-old has found first-team opportunities limited under Maurizio Sarri, prompting the move in search of regular football.
A product of the Savio academy, Ruggeri arrived at Formello in 2019 at just 14 years old and quickly rose through the ranks. Highly regarded for his leadership and defensive versatility, the Rome-born centre-back captained Lazio’s Primavera squad and, last season, gained valuable senior experience during a loan spell at Salernitana, making 21 appearances in Italy’s second tier.
This summer, Sarri included Ruggeri in the senior preseason squad, where he was tested both in his natural role at centre-back and as a full-back. However, with ten defenders competing for limited spots and Lazio’s absence from European competition reducing rotation opportunities, the youngster faced an uphill battle to secure minutes.
And after six years with the club, the former Primavera captain decide to depart Lazio in a permanent move worth €120,000, with the Biancoceleste retaining 50% of any future transfer fee.
Carrarese, fresh from an impressive rise that included winning the 2023/24 Serie C playoffs and securing a solid 12th-place finish in their first season back in Serie B, will be hoping Ruggeri’s arrival strengthens their defensive line. For Lazio, it marks the departure of one of Formello’s brightest prospects, but possibly not the end of their connection with the player should a future return be on the cards
