Basic Expected To Return As Lazio Deal With Midfield Crisis

Lazio are in a difficult situation. After collecting only 3 points from the first 4 Serie A games, the team now face a big emergency in midfield. For the upcoming away match against Genoa on Monday, September 29, coach Maurizio Sarri only has one midfielder available: Danilo Cataldi.

Lazio will miss five of their six midfielders. Nicolò Rovella and Dele-Bashiru are injured, while Guendouzi and Belahyane are suspended. This leaves only Cataldi ready to play. With so many players missing, Sarri must quickly find a temporary solution.

One possible option is to bring back Toma Basic. Sarri already mentioned this idea after the derby defeat. According to Il Messaggero, the Croatian midfielder is close to being reinstated for the Genoa match.

But to include Basic in the squad, one player must be left out. Reports suggest that Manuel Lazzari could be the one to make way. The full-back is still recovering and, with four other defenders already available (Tavares, Pellegrini, Marusic, and Hysaj), his absence would give space for Basic.
