[Official] Basic Registered In Place Of Injured Dele-Bashiru
Amid Lazio’s ongoing midfield emergency, a difference of opinion has emerged between head coach Maurizio Sarri and sporting director Angelo Fabiani regarding the status of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
The Nigerian midfielder remains sidelined after picking up an injury in the Derby della Capitale against Roma, which is expected to keep him out for at least a month. The situation is further complicated by Nicolò Rovella still struggling with a groin problem, while Matteo Guendouzi and Reda Belahyane are suspended following incidents in the same match.
With options running thin, Sarri has recalled Toma BaÅ¡ić into the squad for Monday night’s (September 29th) away clash with Genoa. This move, however, raised another dilemma: who would be left out? Manuel Lazzari was initially considered due to fitness concerns, but Sarri was reluctant to take the risk.
The club later confirmed the decision in an official statement:
“S.S. Lazio announces that, following the injury suffered by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, a temporary replacement has been requested from Lega Serie A. In his place, Toma BaÅ¡ić has been registered and will be available for upcoming league matches.”
It should be noted that Serie A clubs are only allowed to make two squad changes before the January transfer window, making each choice critical. Reports suggest that Sarri is not fully convinced by Dele-Bashiru’s performances, despite the fact that he had started every game for Lazio so far this season.
Fabiani, however, remains a firm supporter of the former Manchester City academy product. Last season, he even clashed with the previous coach, Marco Baroni, when he expressed dissatisfaction with the player’s performances.
With Fabiani continuing to defend his protégé, questions arise over whether this situation might lead to fresh tensions between the management and the coaching staff. The matter is expected to remain unresolved at least until January, when Lazio will once again be allowed to make official squad changes
