[Serie A] Sassuolo - Lazio = 1 - 0
Lazio’s hopes of taking home points from Sassuolo’s ground ended in disappointment. A second-half strike from Fadera secured the Neroverdi’s first victory of the 2025/26 Serie A campaign. The match took place at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday (Sept 14, 2025).
With this result, Fabio Grosso’s men climbed out of the relegation zone, moving up to 14th place in the table with 3 points from their opening three matches.
Lazio started brightly, pushing forward with the pace of Castellanos and Cancellieri. Sassuolo, however, stood firm at the back with Idzes marshalling the defense, while Pinamonti and Laurienté’s counterattacks created moments of danger.
Tension peaked in the 24th minute when Vrancx was shown a straight red card for a hard tackle on Rovella. After a VAR review, the decision was downgraded to a yellow. Worse still for Lazio, Rovella had to leave the pitch injured soon after, with Cataldi coming on in his place. The first half closed goalless despite both sides having dangerous opportunities.
In the second period, Maurizio Sarri sought more attacking spark by introducing Pedro, Dia, and Belahyane. The clearest chance fell in the 62nd minute when Guendouzi’s superb through ball found Zaccagni, but goalkeeper Muric denied him brilliantly.
Lazio’s wastefulness proved costly. In the 70th minute, from a corner kick, Muharemovic’s header found Fadera, who deftly redirected the ball past Provedel to give Sassuolo a 1-0 lead.
The Biancoceleste pressed hard in the closing stages. Their best opportunity came in stoppage time when Gila rose to meet a corner, only to see his header fly just over the bar. The score remained unchanged at the final whistle.
This defeat leaves Lazio stuck in 12th place with 3 points. They now trail city rivals AS Roma by three points, with the Derby della Capitale looming next week, a crucial test for Sarri’s side to turn their fortunes around.
