Inter Milan Monitor Mandas As Lazio Goalkeeper Faces Uncertain Future

Inter Milan have reportedly joined the race to sign Lazio’s young goalkeeper Christos Mandas, as the Greek player’s future in the Italian capital becomes increasingly unclear. Cristian Chivu’s side is said to be monitoring the situation closely, ready to take advantage if an opportunity arises.

The 23-year-old Greek goalkeeper joined Lazio in the summer of 2023 after moving from OFI Crete. He impressed during the final months of the 2023/24 season when he stepped in for the injured Ivan Provedel, delivering strong performances that caught the attention of several clubs across Europe. Among them were Wolverhampton Wanderers, who showed serious interest in bringing him to the Premier League.

At that time, Lazio decided to keep Mandas, who even managed to displace Provedel as the starting goalkeeper under Marco Baroni. However, the arrival of Maurizio Sarri changed the dynamics, as Provedel reclaimed his spot while Mandas has yet to make an appearance this season.

This situation has reportedly led the Biancocelesti management to consider selling him in order to balance the squad and raise funds for new signings in the upcoming January transfer window. According to the Greek outlet SporTime, Inter Milan are now seriously evaluating Mandas as an ideal successor to Yann Sommer, who has entered the twilight of his career.

Inter are also monitoring Noah Atubolu from Freiburg and Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos, but Mandas is believed to be the preferred option due to his Serie A experience and Inter’s tendency to recruit players already adapted to Italian football.

Still, the final decision will likely come in January, when Inter assess their priorities and transfer budget. In the meantime, Mandas will aim to prove that he deserves a place among Italy’s elite goalkeepers, whether in Lazio colors or perhaps wearing the black and blue of San Siro
