Belahyane Draws Interest From Marseille And Rennes As January Window Approaches

Lazio may soon face decisions regarding the future of Reda Belahyane, as two Ligue 1 clubs have expressed concrete interest in the young midfielder. With the January transfer market nearing, Olympique Marseille and Stade Rennais are reportedly monitoring the 21 year old, who has struggled to find space under Maurizio Sarri this season.

Belahyane, a product of the OGC Nice academy, moved to Italy in January 2024 when he joined Hellas Verona. One year later he reunited with Marco Baroni at Lazio, with the coach viewing him as the ideal back up to Nicolò Rovella. His technical profile and tactical discipline made him a promising addition for the future.

However, his situation changed drastically following the return of Danilo Cataldi, whose presence pushed Belahyane further down the pecking order. Even with Rovella sidelined by injury, the Moroccan midfielder has found little room in Sarri’s tactical rotations. So far he has collected only four appearances, none of them as a starter, making him one of the players considered surplus at Formello ahead of the winter window.

According to Foot 11, both Marseille and Rennes have already shown interest in bringing the player back to Ligue 1. Marseille could represent a strong option due to the presence of sporting director Mehdi Benatia, Belahyane’s compatriot, who appreciates his potential. The French giants are seeking additional depth as they aim to keep pace with Paris Saint Germain and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

Rennes also see him as a valuable reinforcement. Currently eighth in the league, they are determined to return to European competition after missing out last season. Adding Belahyane would provide energy and long term development to a midfield seeking consistency.

Belahyane remains under contract with Lazio until the summer of 2029, and his estimated value is around ten million euros. With interest growing and playing time limited, the January window could present Lazio with an opportunity to evaluate potential offers and consider whether a transfer might benefit both the player and the club
