[Official] Lazio Introduce New Club Eagle As Fans Prepare To Choose Her Name

November 20, 2025

Lazio have officially unveiled their new eagle, a symbol that has long represented the spirit and tradition of the club. The Biancoceleste released the first photo of their new pre-match star, who will eventually take over from the historic Olympia. Before she can soar above the Stadio Olimpico, however, she will undergo a period of training designed to ensure a safe and spectacular flight on match days. Only after this preparation will the club reveal her official name.

In keeping with tradition, the final decision will be placed in the hands of the supporters. Lazio have launched a naming contest, just as they did years ago with Olympia. A video published on the club’s social media channels celebrated the arrival of the new eagle and announced that fans will soon be able to cast their votes. The methods of participation will be communicated in full detail ahead of the contest’s opening tomorrow.

The video also introduced the club’s new falconer, who will accompany the eagle during her upcoming flights around the Olimpico. His name is Giacomo Garruto, a figure already well known in the world of wildlife conservation. Lazio confirmed that the contest will run until shortly before the match against Lecce, during which the new eagle will be presented to the fans for the first time.

The unveiling is scheduled for Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico during Lazio’s home match with Lecce. While the fans wait to discover her name, more information about Garruto has emerged. RomaToday reports that he serves as director and manager of the Parco Natura La Selvotta in Formello. Born on 12 July 1985, he is a married father of two and brings more than two decades of experience in falconry, with expertise in ethical training, eagle and falcon care, and environmental education.

What makes Garruto’s appointment even more meaningful for the Lazio faithful is his personal connection to the club. In the year 2000, it was his father who led a golden eagle onto the pitch at the Olimpico. Discussions between Lazio and Garruto began last January following the departure of former falconer Juan Bernabé.

Lazio supporters are now called upon to choose the new eagle’s name. The contest officially opens today, Wednesday 19 November at 5.00 PM, and will close on Saturday 22 November at the same time. Through an Instagram story, the club revealed the list of available names along with their meanings:

  • OLYMPIA

A name that preserves the bond with the Olympic spirit that inspired the club’s founders. It continues the tradition linked to Lazio’s first symbolic eagle.

  • FLAMINIA

A traditional Roman name meaning belonging to the sacred flame, derived from the Latin flamen, a priest dedicated to a specific deity within the Roman pantheon.

  • VITTORIA

The name of the Roman goddess of triumph, equivalent to the Greek Nike. It symbolizes success, ambition, and the courage to overcome obstacles.

  • CORNELIA

Mother of Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus, known for her strength, loyalty to Roman values, and refusal to marry the King of Egypt. She represents virtue, wisdom, and courage.

  • GLORIA

A name rooted in Latin and Greek, meaning fame and honor. It evokes heroic deeds, pride, and a sense of magnificence both in secular and religious contexts.

  • MINERVA

The Roman goddess of wisdom, strategy, the arts, and education. She is part of the Capitoline triad and is often depicted with an eagle at her feet.

With the new eagle and her falconer ready to begin this new chapter, Lazio prepare for one of the most unique and symbolic presentations of the season. All that remains is for the fans to decide the name that will accompany the club’s iconic flights for years to come
