[Official] Candreva Starts Coaching Journey With Italy’s U15 National Team

A new chapter opens for Antonio Candreva, the former Lazio, Inter, and Juventus midfielder, who has officially retired from professional football following his final season with Salernitana in 2023–24. The 1987-born Roman, known for his tireless energy and trademark right-footed strikes, has decided to stay close to the game he loves, this time embracing a coaching role with the Italian national youth setup.

After recently obtaining his UEFA B License, Candreva has joined Enrico Battisti’s Italy Under-15 coaching staff, where he will work alongside Bruno Redolfi. For the 37-year-old, this marks the start of a new adventure on the sidelines, guiding and inspiring the next generation of Azzurri talent.

During his playing career, Candreva represented Italy’s senior national team on 54 occasions, scoring seven goals and earning the respect of fans and coaches alike for his commitment and consistency. His best years were undoubtedly spent in Rome, wearing the Lazio shirt, where he played from 2012 to 2016. Initially met with skepticism when signed by sporting director Igli Tare, Candreva quickly silenced critics with his performances, becoming one of the team’s pillars.

His time at Lazio was crowned by the historic Coppa Italia victory over Roma on May 26, 2013, a date etched forever in Biancoceleste history. In total, he made 151 league appearances for Lazio, scoring 41 goals, and leaving behind a legacy of passion and professionalism.

Beyond his Lazio years, Candreva’s career included spells with Juventus, Inter, Sampdoria, and Salernitana, as well as shorter stints at Livorno, Parma, Cesena, and Udinese. Across nearly 700 professional matches, he recorded 99 goals, demonstrating remarkable consistency across two decades in Serie A.

Now, Candreva’s experience becomes an invaluable asset for Italy’s youth program. With a deep understanding of Italian football and a career that spanned its biggest stages, he steps into his new role with humility and ambition.

“I’m honored to join Club Italia,” said Candreva. “Having the opportunity to begin my journey as part of a youth national team, after achieving my UEFA B qualification, is a privilege. I’m confident I can learn a lot, and I can’t wait to serve the Azzurri. I thank the FIGC for their trust and for giving me this opportunity.”
