Sarri And Fabiani Will Have A Meeting To Prepare For Key Winter Transfer Decisions

As the international break approaches, Lazio’s transfer strategy begins to move into focus. A crucial meeting is scheduled between sporting director Angelo Fabiani and coach Maurizio Sarri to map out plans for the upcoming January transfer window. After several difficult months filled with injuries and inconsistency, Sarri now has a clear vision of what the team needs: a leaner squad, with unconvincing players moved out and precise reinforcements brought in to fit his football philosophy.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Sarri has already identified four players whose positions in the squad are uncertain: Dele-Bashiru, Belahyane, Tavares, and Noslin. All four joined Lazio last season, three in the summer and one in January, but none have managed to become key parts of the Biancoceleste project.

Dele-Bashiru was excluded from the Serie A squad list entirely, a decision that clearly shows Sarri does not consider him part of his long-term plans. Belahyane, once considered a promising addition, has barely featured since the Rome derby and now finds himself below even Toma Basic in the pecking order. Tavares, who arrived amid high expectations, has struggled to deliver either the defensive balance or offensive sharpness demanded by Sarri’s system. Meanwhile, Noslin has shown effort and discipline but has not been able to make a meaningful impact, often lacking a clear role or consistency.

For this reason, Lazio’s January market will likely focus first on selling or loaning players who are not part of Sarri’s plans, freeing up both squad space and salary budget. This would then allow the club to look for reinforcements better suited to the team’s tactical structure, especially in midfield and on the wings, where Sarri wants more reliability and quality.

Before the match against Cagliari, Fabiani confirmed the club’s approach:

“I have always said that we will evaluate with Sarri, since he is the one who decides on departures and indicates which roles to strengthen, according to his footballing vision. The club’s task is to find the players who fit this project,” said the sporting director.

In this process, Sarri will define which players will leave and which roles need to be strengthened, while Fabiani will handle the search and negotiations. Among the profiles currently being discussed are Ivan Ilic (Torino) for midfield, Aaron Martin (Genoa) for the left-back position, and Lorenzo Insigne, who could arrive on a free transfer.

The situation in midfield remains delicate, with Nicolò Rovella still recovering from his groin injury. This uncertainty could lead Sarri to request an additional playmaker, capable of maintaining the rhythm and creativity of Lazio’s play.

The meeting between Sarri and Fabiani will be fundamental in determining Lazio’s direction in the winter transfer window. The club’s main goal is to support the coach’s vision while maintaining financial balance, aiming to build a team that fully reflects Sarri’s identity: organized, competitive, and efficient for the second half of the season.
