Lazio Fans Welcome Caicedo Home With Emotional Tribute At The Olimpico Before Napoli Match
An emotional and unforgettable moment unfolded at the Stadio Olimpico shortly before kick off in Lazio vs Napoli. Just minutes before the match, Felipe Caicedo stepped onto the pitch and was welcomed back by the Biancoceleste fans with warmth and affection.
The Curva Nord immediately rose to its feet. Applause, chants, and heartfelt cheers filled the stadium, underlining the strong bond that still connects Caicedo to Lazio and its supporters. It was a tribute that went far beyond football, bringing back memories of decisive goals and unforgettable nights.
Before the match, Caicedo spoke to Lazio Style Channel, clearly moved by the atmosphere.
“I’m very emotional,” he said. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been here, and I carry so many beautiful memories. These colors and these people mean a lot to me. I just want to enjoy this moment and the match.”
The former striker also opened up about a deeply painful chapter in his life. He spoke about the tragic death of Mario Pineida, his former teammate at Barcelona Sporting Club.
“He was like a brother to me,” Caicedo explained. “I’ve known him for a long time, and his loss has left a huge wound. It’s very painful, but we have to try to move forward.”
Looking at Lazio today, Caicedo spoke more like a fan than a former player.
“I’m never objective when it comes to Lazio,” he admitted. “I love this team. I hope Sarri can bring Lazio back to important results, like in the past. We are all waiting for good things.”
When asked which moment best represents his time in Rome, his answer came without hesitation.
“The goal against Cagliari,” he said. “That madness. That is Lazio. The fans push you, and you have to believe until the very end. The message I want to give is simple: never stop believing.”
Known as “El Pantera” for his strength and decisive goals, Caicedo was the guest of honor on a difficult night for Lazio, who later lost 2–0 to Napoli. Even so, his presence brought warmth and pride to the Olimpico.
Caicedo’s return to Rome also carried deeper meaning. He recently came back to Italy after the tragic murder of Pineida, an event that pushed him to seriously reconsider his future in football.
“I will most likely retire,” he said in recent statements. “What happened affected me deeply. Right now, I don’t feel like continuing.”
To honor him, Lazio played a tribute video on the stadium screens. Wearing the Biancoceleste shirt once again, Caicedo walked toward the Curva Nord and received a long and heartfelt standing ovation.
It was a powerful reminder that, regardless of results, some players remain forever part of Lazio’s soul.
